3 Squares Owners in Risk of Electrocution; 175K Pressure Cookers Recalled in the U.S.
Product Safety Recall: 3 Squares Recalls 175K Pressure Cookers
Sherwood Marketing Group, the owners of Californian brand 3 Squares, and their TIM3 MACHIN3 line of pressure cookers, are wishing they could use their product to travel back in time and fix the “improperly installed wiring” that can allegedly cause their cookers to electrocute their customers. The faulty appliances have been traced back to manufacturer, Zhongshan Leeper Electrical Appliances Co., Ltd. in Guangdong, China.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced the recall of around 175,000 of 3 Squares’ cookers in the United States that were sold between December 2015 and July 2016 at retailers like Amazon, Costco, Bed Bath and Beyond, Best Buy, Home Depot, Kohl’s and Target. Authorities believe that the stainless steel cookers can spark when turned on and have been reported to allegedly turn on without being initiated to do so. According to the CPSC, the defective parts can “cause electrical shorting in the unit, posing fire and electric shock hazards.”
The faulty wires have been found in several iterations of the TIM3 MACHIN3 branded pressure cookers with fixed power cords leading to the recall, but only one injury has been reported to date. 3 Squares claims that all TIM3 MACHIN3 cookers that have a removable power cord are safe and have not been included in the recall.
Last Major Pressure Cooker Recall
Pressure cookers have been recalled in the past. At the end of last year 35,000 Breville pressure cookers were recalled due to faulty gaskets that caused at least five reports of second-degree burns, when the the contents from the container leaked on to the operator. Those cookers were also sold on Amazon, Bed Bath and Beyond and Best Buy. The Breville cookers needed a new gasket; the recalled 3 Squares TIM3 MACHIN3 cookers will need to be entirely replaced.
3 Squares is asking that owners of affected cookers unplug their machines and cut the power cord off with scissors—throw away the TIM3 MACHIN3 unit itself—and mail in the cord with a form that can be found on their website and the label on the machine for a free replacement, including prepaid shipping.
