GE Profile Range Recall

On April 8, 2009, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and GE Consumer & Industrial announced a voluntary nationwide recall of approximately 28,000 GE Profile Freestanding Dual Fuel Ranges, due to a potential fire and burn hazard.

The recalled ranges contain wiring that can overheat. GE was notified of 47 reports of overheated wiring, with 33 of those reports involving wiring that caught fire. One fire led to structural damage, and 14 other cases led to minor property damage.

The recall affects all GE Profile 30” Freestanding Dual Fuel ranges that were available in black, bisque, white, and stainless steel. The following model numbers are affected by the recall:

  • Begins with J2B900 (serial number begins with LD, MD, RD, SD, TD, VD, ZD, AF, DF, FF, GF, HF, LF, or MF)
  • Begins with J2B915 (serial number begins with MF, RF, SF, TF, VF, ZF, AG, DG, FG, GG, HG, LG, MG, RG, SG, TG, VG, or ZG)

The ranges were sold at department and appliance stores from June 2002 through December 2005.

Consumers are advised to stop using the ovens immediately and contact GE at 888-352-9764 for a free repair. The company assures consumers that the cooktop burners are still safe to use.
